NEW HEAVEN AND A NEW EARTH

AFTER THE MILLENNIUM
After the Millennium, Satan is loosed from his prison. One final rebellion occurs. The rebellious are destroyed. Satan is cast into the lake of fire. The heavens and the earth pass away. The great white throne (which is the judgment of the damned) is held. Then comes the end. A new heaven and earth comes forth. New Jerusalem, the city of God, comes forth and then eternity.

1-HEAVEN AND EARTH PASS AWAY
(Commentary)

The next event that appears to happen is the following.
The heaven and the earth shall pass away.
The heavens shall perish; the elements shall melt with fervent heat. The heavens being on fire shall be dissolved.
They shall pass away with a great noise.
The Lord shall change them. They shall be changed.
The earth shall be burnt up; it shall be dissolved—the earth shall perish.
The inhabitants are also dissolved.
The day and hour that "these things" will happen, no man knows.
In each case, when both are mentioned, the heaven passing away is mentioned first.

3-A NEW HEAVEN AND A NEW EARTH
(Commentary)

As already noted, the heavens and earth pass away. Now God creates new heavens and a new earth. In each case, where both are mentioned, the new heavens are mentioned first. It is followed with the new earth or new world. God makes all things new.
Very little information is given about the new earth. Some believe the old earth will be renewed or recreated. Others believe it will be an entirely new planet.
Rev 21:1-AND THERE WAS NO (longer any) MORE SEA. The word "water" was not used, but "sea." It is unclear if this denotes oceans or sea, as in the Mediterranean Sea. In Rev 13:1, the word "sea" seems to mean "the nations of the world in unrest, turmoil, and instability." In Rev 21:1, there is no more sea.
Rev 21:24-AND THE NATIONS: It is noted that the new earth has nations. OF THEM WHICH ARE SAVED: These nations are saved. This is in harmony with 2 Pe 3:13; as it is written, WHEREIN DWELLETH RIGHTEOUSNESS. These nations SHALL WALK IN THE LIGHT OF IT (or walk by its light). These saved nations shall walk by the light of New Jerusalem. This suggests that spiritually they are walking by its light. New Jerusalem has no need of the sun or the moon. Such a statement is not made regarding the new earth. Nevertheless, it is possible that New Jerusalem may give light to the new earth.
Many questions are left unanswered. Will New Jerusalem also radiate heat? Will the new earth turn? What will be the size of the new earth? The Lord has not chosen, at this time, to give us many of the details. However, the scenario given, is one of a marvelous place of righteousness.
AND THE KINGS OF THE EARTH: Evidently, the new earth will have kings. This indicates that there will be some form of government. Since the nations are saved, we could assume that the government will be a theocracy.
The kings of the earth DO (or will) BRING THEIR GLORY AND HONOR (or splendor) INTO IT. The kings on the new earth will have glory and honor. They will be able to transport to New Jerusalem in some manner and will bring their glory and honor into it.
AND THE LEAVES OF THE TREE (the tree of life in New Jerusalem): The tree has leaves as well as fruit. The leaves WERE FOR THE HEALING OF THE NATIONS-Rev 22:2. Healing, from the Greek word therapeia, can mean "serving, care, or healing (therapy); medical-cure; domestics: healing, household; or health-giving." In some way, the leaves will be used for the healing of the nations upon the new earth.

5-MEMORY ERASED
At this time, Scripture indicates our memory of the past is erased. We shall no longer remember the old earth. It shall not come into our mind. Our lives of sin that we once lived will cease from our memory.
For those in the eternal lake of fire, however, there is no indication that they will ever forget. For eternity, it appears they will remember their lives of sin and also every chance that they had to repent and receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior, but refused.
